In Embodied Recovery, I talk with Paula Scatoloni and Rachel Lewis Marlow about complex trauma and disordered eating from a sensorimotor and somatic psychotherapy perspective.
Rachel Lewis-Marlow is a Certified Advanced Practitioner in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, dually licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Massage and Bodywork Therapist. She is the co-founder of the Embodied Recovery Institute. Rachel has developed somatically integrative programming for residential, partial hospitalization intensive out-patient eating disorder treatment. She has extensive experience as a teacher and presenter, specializing in somatically integrative interventions. She contributed a chapter on the application of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to eating disorders treatment in the recently published book, Trauma-Informed Approaches to Eating Disorders. In her private practice Rachel works with trauma, attachment, eating disorders, and dissociative disorders.
PAULA is a somatic-based psychotherapist, Certified Eating Disorders Specialist, and Somatic Experiencing™ practitioner in Chapel Hill, NC. Paula has worked in the field of eating disorders for over two decades at treatment centers and in University settings. Paula has taught extensively on the etiology and treatment of eating disorders through classes, workshops, professional trainings, and conferences. She is currently an SEP assistant and session provider. Paula is trained in Bodywork and Somatic Education (BASE) and additional models for using touch for developmental trauma. She is currently completing her second year of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training. Paula stays current on the relevant research in the eating disorders field and is enthusiastic about researching the effectiveness of somatic modalities in the treatment of eating disorders.
