If you’ve ever felt weighed down by old wounds, struggled with problems such as addition, emotional eating, anxiety, depression or battled a deep sense of not being good enough, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) – also known as Tapping – offers a powerful, evidence-based pathway to healing trauma at the core. Rather than managing symptoms on the surface, EFT helps release the emotional wounds and energetic blocks that drive cycles of self-sabotage, pain, and disconnection.
Rooted in energy psychology, EFT combines psychological techniques with tapping on specific acupressure points to shift emotional and energetic patterns in the body. This simple yet powerful process helps free us from the unresolved trauma behind much of our emotional and physical suffering.
What Is EFT?
EFT is often called “psychological acupuncture without the needles.”
It involves a two-finger tapping technique on eight specific points on the face and upper body while focusing on a painful emotion, belief, or memory.
EFT blends psychological techniques with tapping on acupressure points to help shift emotional and energetic blocks, freeing us from cycles of pain, self-criticism, and self-sabotage.
It engages both the mind and body, allowing healing to occur where talking alone often cannot reach.
How Trauma Underlies Emotional Symptoms
Trauma is not just about extreme events; it can include any experience where our emotional needs were unmet, where we felt unsafe, unseen, rejected, or powerless. When trauma remains unprocessed, it becomes stored in the body and nervous system, showing up later as symptoms such as:
- Emotional eating
- Addictive behaviours
- Anxiety and overwhelm
- Depression and low mood
- ADHD like symptoms and difficulties with focus or impulsivity
- Self-criticism and feelings of unworthiness
- Sleep problems and chronic stress
These symptoms are the nervous system’s attempts to cope with unresolved emotional pain — but they can keep us stuck in patterns of suffering.
EFT works by addressing the trauma beneath these symptoms, helping to safely release the emotional charge, calm the nervous system, and create new patterns of resilience, acceptance, and empowerment.
Evidence Behind EFT
EFT is supported by a growing body of research. Clinical trials, including work by world-renowned researcher Dr. Peta Stapleton, have shown that EFT can dramatically lower cortisol (the stress hormone) by up to 43% after just one session — a shift rarely seen in psychological therapies.
Studies across more than 10 countries, involving over 60 researchers and published in over 20 peer-reviewed journals, have demonstrated EFT’s effectiveness in reducing PTSD symptoms, depression, anxiety, food cravings, and chronic pain. These findings show that tapping not only improves mental health but also creates measurable changes in physical health.

EFT: A Pathway to True Healing
Where many approaches often focus on symptom management, EFT goes deeper, helping to heal the unresolved trauma that keeps painful patterns in place. By combining modern psychological approaches with the wisdom of energy healing, EFT offers a compassionate and empowering path to true emotional freedom.
You are not broken. You are carrying emotional wounds that can be healed. With tapping, healing is literally at your fingertips.
Where can I learn to Tap?
Many psychotherapists include EFT: Tapping in their sessions. I trained with Lauren Brittain who has a great app called iTap. iTap is a great resource for in-betyween therapy sessions and in addition to therapy. Join one of Lauren’s live stream classes or EFT recordings to discover the power of Emotional Freedom Techniques. Please feel free to use my affiliate link.
